🌿 “Trauma Is a Chronic Disruption of Connection” – How Healing Begins

Trauma is not the event—it’s the chronic disruption of connection,” says Dr. Stephen Porges, creator of the Polyvagal Theory. When we experience trauma, our nervous system shifts into protection mode, cutting us off from the very sense of safety and belonging we need to heal.
Understanding trauma is the first step—but true healing goes deeper. It requires restoring connection with the body, rebuilding trust in others, and reawakening the parts of ourselves that had to shut down to survive.
Through EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic, polyvagal-informed therapy, we can gently guide the nervous system back toward safety and connection. Healing begins not through analysis, but through experience—when the body finally learns that it’s safe to come home again.
